The Latest Boss

Just who is Andrea Pirlo?

Pirlo, a household name for students of the game as far back as '03 or '06 was a midfield great not only in Italy but the world in general. A serial winner and if I may, a double legend; of both AC Milan and Juventus.

He was known for his style of play and unique role (playing as a deep-lying playmaker).
He left the Serie A and Europe in 2015 and moved over to the US where he ended his career after two years playing for New York City.

Only last year he got his coaching license and today he's the coach of Juventus. It doesn't come easier than this but as Gattuso rightly said, this is only the beginning of a lot of sleepless nights.

A shocking choice, seeing that about a week ago he was appointed as the U-23 boss and only days later without overseeing any competitive game he's been called up to lead the senior team.
There were certain links to the likes of Pochettino, Inzaghi(Lazio coach) and Zidane with Pochettino looking more likely to get the job. In the end, it is what it is.

Experience wise as a manager, Pirlo has very little under his belt but still Juve made the call.
For now, we'll watch, it's too early for criticisms so we'll just observe but definitely if things go south then the cries against might be too loud to bear.

Looking at the good side, Andrea Pirlo is a legend of the club, signed at a time when Juventus were becoming synonymous with the term "trophyless" and with his talents helped the team to 4 league titles amongst others.
He's indeed amongst those that began the scudetto domination.
He's one that knows a lot about the club and the game, qualities that might have given him the edge over other coach options.

That aside, getting a coach isn't the solution to every problem at Juventus at the moment. They do need significant additions in terms of players.
From defence, midfield and attack, they're in need of good personnel and truth be told if the board fails to sort out the transfers department (get quality players and let go of certain players)I don't see Pirlo doing more than Sarri did.

Agnelli, Juve chairman has hinted at rejuvenation, revolution, infact any re- word you can think of. I guess he also understands the need to make good use of this transfer window.
It'll be interesting how Juve do go about their transfer business, hopefully they can get Tonali or Locatelli (do have a soft spot for these players).

It sure looks like a season to look up to for Juventini and hopefully their legend can lead them to winning their most coveted prize, "The Big Ears".

  1. Pirlo is largely inexperienced as a manager but his understanding of the club might help him succeed. In addition to getting quality players, Juve bosses also need to give him time as "Rome wasn't built in a day".

Juventus seemed to be rash with their decisions but losing in the finals and crashing out in the quarters of the Europe's most coveted prize was much reason for them to do so.

And picking Pirlo ,well no one can say how well or bad it'll go( He neither the club as a whole can tell). He's stepping onto the wheels of affairs of a nine consecutive title winning club, A regular face in Europe's elite club competition and arguably Italy's best in recent years.

So much is expected of him, meaning that a poor start will be dangerous enough to relieve him of his job. But getting examples from old boys coaching their clubs to no so bad success (OGS,Lampard,Zidane;topping the list). It looks like something good is likely to surface. As earlier said, we all await resumption of action.

All the re's as rightly stated needs to be looked into and put in place if possible before action restart to help put the team in place and enhance fluidity at Allianz Arena.
